In the Pokémon series, Shiny Pokémon are a highly sought-after phenomenon. Players of Pokémon Gold and Silver could encounter a Red Gyarados for the first time at the Lake of Rage. Before Pokémon Black and White, these colorful aberrations were simply called " alternate-color Pokémon ", but the fans' favorite nickname, "Shiny Pokémon", was adopted by Nintendo. The "shiny" part of the nickname comes from the unique sparkling animation of these variants at the start of battle. 🤜 🤛
As for TCG cards, it was in January 2002 in France, with the sixth expansion of the Wizards series , Neo Revelation, that our favorite collectibles arrived with a Shiny Magikarp and a Shiny Gyarados! 🐟
In Japan, Shiny Pokémon were first introduced in 2000 in the Neo boosters.
Although all Shiny Pokémon share the same basic design, some stand out with subtle but noticeable color differences. Charizard's black and blue Shiny variant — already one of the game's most popular mascots — makes the fiery dragon even more coveted, whether in pixels or on paper. So what exactly is it all about? 🐉
What's special about Shiny Charizard?
Shiny Charizard is no different from a regular Charizard, apart from its Shiny appearance. The difference between a Shiny Pokémon and a regular one is purely cosmetic, but it takes a special set of individual values (Poké-genetics) for it to happen in the games, and therefore on your TCG cards.
The Shiny version of a Pokémon like Charizard, which looks completely different from its normal form, is highly sought after because of its rarity and the bragging rights it gives trainers. After all, everyone knows this black dragon color is really cool.
