What is Bandai Namco Union Arena?

Bandai has unveiled details of an ambitious new game project, Union Arena, which aims to be an "all-in-one dream card game" featuring several anime series.

Anime currently announced for the game include Code Geass, Jujutsu Kaisen, Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Bleach, TenSura, The IDOLM@STER Shiny Colors and even games like Tales of Arise. These cards will be released monthly, starting with Jujutsu Kaisen, Code Geass and Hunter x Hunter, released as displays, decks and boosters.

About Union Arena

Union Arena is an upcoming TCG featuring a wide range of anime properties, crossing paths in the battle of a lifetime. These cards feature original artwork and scenes from the anime they belong to.

Players can build a deck of up to 50 cards, with no more than 4 copies of any card. At first glance, the game looks a bit like Pokémon, in that players place seven cards in a "life area". You win by attacking until all of your opponent's cards in the life area are gone. Cards can be used to fight or to supply energy to attack monsters.

Cards also have trigger effects even when placed in the life area, so you can build your deck around these effects to surprise your opponent just when they think they have the upper hand

IMPORTANT:

When building your deck, you can't mix cards from different series. For example, you can't build a deck with cards from both My Hero Academia and Hunter x Hunter, probably due to the lack of synergy between them. However, Union Arena will let you see fights between characters who would never have battled in their original series. You can have Tanjiro from Demon Slayer beat up Mano Sakuragi from The Idolm@ster Shiny Colors if you like.

Which Union Arena Display should you choose?

Choosing a Union Arena Display mostly depends on your personal taste and favorite anime. If you're a fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, Code Geass or Hunter x Hunter, for example, you can pick a Display from those series. Likewise, if you're a fan of Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Bleach or Tales of Arise, there are options for those series too.

How many cards are in a Display?

Each Union Arena Display contains 20 boosters of 8 cards each. So each Display holds a total of 160 cards for the included series, such as Code Geass, Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer and many more.

Displays let you collect cards featuring iconic heroes and villains from these series and build your own deck with your favorite characters. With Union Arena, you'll enjoy a unique collecting experience, with original artwork and scenes from your favorite anime.

How much does a Union Arena Display cost?

Currently, in 2023, a Union Arena Display costs about €90. However, since the Union Arena TCG is a brand-new product, it's hard to predict how the different series will do and therefore display prices in the long run. Prices may vary depending on the popularity of the included series.

Find the card of your favorite character

It can be really hard to find the card of your dreams with a single Union Arena Booster, since you'd have to buy a lot of them and search for hours to find the Tanjiro or Gon card you want.

So how do you find the card of your dreams?

Here are your options depending on what you're looking for…

The rarest cards? A Union Arena Display

As you saw above, there are usually 20 boosters in a Display, and that's where you'll find holographic or full art cards you're looking for, but you'll need to open as many as possible to find it.

A specific card? A Deck or Box

If the Jujutsu Kaisen Yūji Itadori card you're after is guaranteed in a Union Arena Deck, go for one of those! Plus, your deck will be fully battle-ready if you play TCG matches. Decks are pre-built and contain everything you need to start playing.

Small budget, big wish? A Union Arena Booster!

The last option is a single Union Arena Booster. It's often for those who want to try their luck on a small number of cards, but you can still land a super-powerful one.
